Walthamstow Wetlands
Walthamstow Wetlands Nature Reserve is a magical place – it has the same conservation status as the Amazon and the Nile, right here in Walthamstow, London!
The reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It also forms part of the Lee Valley Special Protection Area and is on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
The site is an important sanctuary for nature, providing a haven for migrating wintering and breeding birds. The area is teeming with animals and wildflowers and there are a number of islands on the site, including Heron Island and Cormorant Island.
