Land of 180,000 lakes, the Midnight Sun and arctic Lapland – where you can marvel at the Northern Lights – Finland is a treasure waiting to be found. Tucked away in the far North, the country experiences seasons of extremes and its cosmopolitan capital city Helsinki sits on a vast archipelago of 330 islands, offering travellers a truly unique trip. Visit Finland is delighted to be partnering with Walthamstow Wetlands to celebrate the life of Finnish Moomins creator, Tove Jansson. From 18th June 2021, guests can take part in a Moomin Trail around Walthamstow Wetlands which has a striking similarity to the island of Klovharun in Finland which Jansson visited every summer. Finland’s sustainability pledge encourages visitors to respect Finnish nature and travel in a more environmentally conscious way, which aligns with the environmental values of Walthamstow Wetlands.

Born in Finland’s capital Helsinki, Tove Jansson and her Moomin characters are an integral part of the Finnish identity, with her stories inspiring generations over and over. Finland even has a Moominworld in the town of Naantali and the world’s only Moomin Museum which is popular with tourists and locals alike.
